5 ADOPTION OF MINUTES OF AGM HELD 17 MAY 2021
The minutes were signed as a true record of the meeting.
6 MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Alan Hartshorne said there was no longer any need for a Rights Co-ordinator as this was now covered by National Office under the Cycling Advocacy Network. People could join this by contacting National Office.
7 ADOPTION OF ANNUAL REPORTS
Only three events had taken place in 2021: the Sulley Rides, the President’s Ride and the Carol Service. There was good weather for the President’s Ride and a good turn-out. The Carol Service went well but the numbers were disappointing and it was very cold in the church.
8 ADOPTION OF STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS
Peter explained the figures. There had been a change in the year-end date last year so this report did not compare to the previous one which was for 18 months. A profit of £67.20 had been made, largely because there had been no pub lunch to attract people to the AGM. The main expenditure was the Meriden wreath. The accounts had already been sent in to National Office as the deadline was at the end of the week. Those who had sent in accounts were thanked as was Richard King for auditing them; he was willing to do the same next year.
Peter explained the complicated problems with setting up a new bank account with HSBC; this could not be done without knowing who the signatories would be. Lynn said that HSBC now charged for their accounts.
9 NOTICE OF MOTIONS
Neil Dixon proposed the motion that “The membership should decide whether the Group should continue in its current form”. He explained that fewer and fewer people were attending events and so people did not want to volunteer to lead them.
Alan Hartshorne felt it was a shame to close the Group just before its 150th anniversary year; he did not want to be secretary but would do it to keep the Group going. Everyone said they were willing to help where they could. Alan said he would like to change the name of the group and suggested Heart of the Shires Cycling Club; this was something to think about. Secretary: Alan Hartshorne – proposed Jim Gerrard, seconded Neil Dixon. All were in favour of the Group continuing as it was at the moment. Decisions could be made on what to do with its funds during the year if necessary. The rules said these should revert to National Office but Peter proposed stipulating that it went to the Cyclists’ Defence Fund which protected people who actually rode bikes. This was discussed. It was suggested that some of the money could be spent because it was the 125th anniversary.
